Facebook Profiles in Google
When facebook created the newsfeed application it’s users were in an uproar over privacy issues. However, they calmed down and now newsfeed is well, old news. Now that Facebook has weathered that storm they have moved into Public Search Listings. Profiles on the social network site will now turn up not only on Facebook searches, but also on Google, Yahoo and MSN Search.
The search results include at most your name and profile picture and there are some restrictions. Your profile must be viewable by “everyone” and you have to be over the age of 18 to turn up in search. If you don’t want your profile to show up simply change your settings to “private.”
And Facebook offered the reassurance that people will still have to login to their account to message, poke or add someone as a friend. They also reminded users that you can restrict what information is shown in your public listing by going to the search privacy page.
Although this represents another controversial move for Facebook, Mark Zucherberg’s judgment has proven sound so far with these types of things.
